Not many athletic competitions end in a tie, but swimming is one of the few sports that allows that to happen, and that’s exactly what happened in last night’s meet for the Lady Starfish when they swam Dekalb. The meet ended with a final score of 78-78. South Adams’ boys easily won the meet, finishing first in every event. The final score of the meet was 126-38.
For the girls, the A 200 free relay and the A 400 free relay were victorious. The 200 free relay was comprised of Claire Burson, Hannah Neuenschwander, Aubri Gerber, and Isabel VonGunten and the 400 free relay was made up of Addisyn Hunley, Maggie Nussbaum, Gerber, and Burson. Individual winners were Maggie Nussbaum in the individual medley and breaststroke, Hannah Neuenschwander in the butterfly, and Addisyn Hunley in the backstroke.
The A medley relay for the Lady Starfish, which was made up of Addisyn Hunely, Maggie Nussbaum, Hannah Neuenschwander, and Isabel VonGunten, finished second. Individual second place finishers were Burson in the 200 free, VonGunten in the 50 and 100 free, Michelle Sandoval in the butterfly, and Claire Burson in the 500 free.
For the boys, all three A relays were victorious. The A medley relay was comprised of Zach Herman, Curtis Sprunger, Alec Neuenschwander, and Blaine Harruff; the A 200 free relay was made up of Isaac Gorrell, Aidan VonGunten, Race Anderson, and Trey Lehman; and Gorrell, Lehman, Anderson, and VonGunten made up the A 400 free relay. Individual winners were Colin Alberson in the 200 and 500 free, Aidan VonGunten in the individual medley and 100 free, Trey Lehman in the 50 free and backstroke, Blaine Harruff in diving, Zach Herman in the butterfly, Isaac Gorrell in the 100 free, and Curtis Sprunger in the 100 breaststroke.
The B 200 free relay for the boys placed second. That relay was comprised of Alec Neuenschwander, Curtis Sprunger, Colin Alberson, and Zach Herman. Individual second place finishers for the boys were Alec Neuenschwander in the 200 free and butterfly, Isaac Gorrell in the 50 and 100 free, and Zach Herman in the backstroke.
The Lady Starfish will be back in action on Thursday night during the Jay County Sectional Prelims. The boys will be back in action on February 13 when they travel to the Helen P. Brown Natatorium to swim in a tri-meet against Fort Wayne South Side and Marion.
