Boys Varsity Baseball · Varsity Baseball defeats Jay County

South Adams got up early on Jay County with 10 runs in the first but Jay County bounced back in the bottom of the 1st inning with a 5 spot making it 10-5 after 1.  Neither team’s starting pitcher made it out of the 1st.  The rest of the game was a battle of the bullpens.  Besser came in for the Starfires and Hare for the Patriots.  The Starfires jumped back in the 2nd inning by putting up 3 runs of their own.  Jay County was still not done and scored 2 runs in the bottom half.  The Starfires struck back with 2 runs in the 3rd but this time the Patriots were held scoreless in the bottom half of the frame.  Again the Starfire bats came alive scoring 4 runs in the 4th inning.  Jay County got 1 back making it 19-8 at the end of 4 innings.  The Starfires tacked one more run on in the 5th making it 20-8 and that’s how it ended.

Grant Besser finished the game with 10 strikeouts in addition to going 3-3 at the plate with a double, homerun, and 4 RBIs.  Nic Stuber had 2 hits to go along with 3 RBI and  Joe Stuber had 2 hits as well which included 5 RBIs.

The Starfires are now 14-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACAC play.

Next up for the Starfires is Southern Wells on Thursday at Harry F. Anderson Field in Berne – 5:00 PM.
