South Adams needed 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to down the Bruins. Adam Besser got the start and went 4 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out 6. He then gave the ball to Austin Davidson who surrendered 2 runs on 2 hits in 3 innings of work while striking out 3 Bruin batters to earn the win for the Starfires. The Bruins outhit the Starfires 9-7 but the tonight the Starfires got the big hits. Blackford took an early 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning and then added to it in the 4th inning with a single run making the score 4-0. The Starfires began chipping away at the lead in the bottom of the 4th by scoring a run on a Terry Dawn single. The Starfires then tied the game in the bottom of the 5th when Isaiah Baumgartner doubled scoring 3 runs. The Bruins wouldn’t be denied and scored 2 runs on a triple and an error. The 6-4 score held into the bottom of the 7th inning. Grant Besser lead of the inning with a walk. Collin Shaffer then came up to the plate with 1 runner on with 2 outs. He worked the count for a walk extending the inning for Baumgartner – who earlier in the game busted a 3 RBI double. This time Baumgartner was poised to come up with a clutch hit and he did – a sharp liner to the center fielder who dove to make the play but came up empty. Baumgartner again tied the game up scoring Besser and Shaffer on his two out triple. Mark Clary then came to the plate to attempt the walk-off. 2 pitches later the Starfires were celebrating Mark Clary’s game winning single.
The Starfires improve to 13-1 on the season with a big come from behind win against the Blackford Bruins.
