Senior Marco Vasquez scored four goals, and sophomore Brian O’Donnell dished out three assists to lead the South Adams boys soccer team to a 6-2 win over Wapahani. It was the third straight win for South Adams, putting their season record at 4-4.
South Adams got on the board just under five minutes into the game on a Marco Vasquez goal that was assisted by Brian O’Donnell. Wapahani tied the game a little over ten minutes later after a ball was misplayed by two South Adams defenders and the keeper in front of the goal leading to a goal. Just four minutes later Marco Vasquez scored again, this time assisted by David Guzman. Five minutes after that Vasquez and Guzman switched roles, with Guzman scoring a goal off of a Vasquez assist to make the halftime score 3-1.
South Adams got on the board early again in the second half with another hook up between O’Donnell and Vasquez, giving Vasquez his third goal of the game. It was the second time this season that Vasquez has notched a hat trick. Wapahani scored its second and final goal off of a corner kick a few minutes later. Brian O’Donnell got his third assist of the game ten minutes later finding Oseas Mendoza for a tap in goal. The three assists for O’Donnell is a career high, and a season high for South Adams. Marco Vasquez got one final breakaway with five minutes left in the game and converted his fourth goal of the game, making the final score 6-2. The four goal game is a career high for Vasquez.
Marco Vasquez led the team with nine shots on goal, and Gabriel Klopfer had one save, benefitting from Wapahani having only 3 shots on goal for the game. Marco Vasquez now has ten goals on the year to lead the team, and Brian O’Donnell leads the team with six assists.
